Manis J Nyonya Restaurant

Having read the good reviews of Manis J, we decide to try it.  It is located just about 3 minutes walk from Ramada Plaza hotel.  From Ramada Plaza, just walk toward The Shore shopping centre – at road junction – turn left – walk straight – Manis J is on the right opposite a Chinese temple.

We were there early, hence it was not crowded.  Small family run nyonya restaurant with simple Peranakan décor.

Once seated, the addictive keropok was served.  Service was friendly and prompt.

Luckily we ordered 3 dishes as the portion was big for 2 persons.  The ayam buah keluak (MYR30) was well cooked.  Portion was too big for us.

Uncle Jimmy was kind enough to show us  how to dig out the buah keluak fruit.  He mentioned it needed to be soaked in water for one week before cooking.  The gravy of the chicken stew goes very well with white rice.

Next was my favourite – sambai petai udang(MYR35).  The prawns were fresh and plentiful.  I liked the petai which was slightly bitter in taste.

Final dish was the steam lady finger (MYR15).  It was fresh. Sambal belacan came together with this dish.  It was spicy but not to me.  My level of tolerance for chilli is higher.

We were tempted to order the nyonya chendol.  But were just too full.  Maybe next time.
