A fine WordPress.com site
A very old hotel with complete refurbishments, it is a popular hotel in Melaka. Stayed here for 2 nights with breakfast at the total charge of MYR550.95. I remember more than 15 years ago, we stayed here before. Then, it was called Hotel Renaissance. At that time, Melaka Sentral bus terminal was not even built. It was long long time ago……
Location is very ideal. We came by taking Panorama bus 17 from Melaka Sentral and alighted just opposite Ramada Plaza. The bus ride took about 12 minutes if there was no jam. If you come on Saturday afternoon, most likely than not, there will be massive jam.
Ramada Plaza is within walking distance to The Shore. About 12 minutes walk to Jonker Walk along the river. It can be quite a pleasant slow stroll if not for the oppressive heat. Many eateries and restaurants nearby. Bulldog café which is about 5 minutes walk away serves good Nonya cuisine. We liked especially the fried chilli okra and sambal prawns. Restoran Lee famous for its chilli crab is also on the same row as Bulldog café. In the night, we saw long queue for the char kway teow (fried flat noodles) at the nearby coffee shop.
As in most 5 star hotels, the lobby was huge and grand with the doorman opening the door for you. Check in was fast and easy. Need to pay deposit which is refundable upon check out. We were allowed to check in early and were delighted to be given the room on 21st floor. The view was awesome.
Lobby is huge and grand
The room is big and spacious but a little dated. A writing table and a day rest sofa is an added comfort. As usual, the comfort and luxury of a 5 star hotel are provided. Bed is clean and we slept very well. However, the carpet is worn out and drawer is chipped. At 5 stars rating, this is quite unacceptable. Perhaps, it is the sign of tear and wear over the years.
Bathroom is clean. Water pressure is very strong. Wifi is strong. Hair dryer works well. There is even an iron comes with iron board. In room safe deposit box is always one thing I am happy to have.
Breakfast was served from 6.30am to 10.30am. It was quite a big spread of choices. Seats were abundant. Service was a tad slow though there was not a huge crowd. Serve staffs were young and perhaps not properly trained. Somehow, I did not enjoy the choices as much as I hope I would. The tea was quite bland. Honey melon was tasteless.
Swimming pool is on 9th floor. The deepest end is 9 feet. Hardly can find such deep pool in hotel now.
On Sunday where there was seminar event on, the hotel was so crowded one wonders is this another Jonker Walk…
Though, there are some let-downs like average breakfast food and overcrowded lobby, the room is comfortable and cosy. It is also reasonably affordable compared to other 5*. Location is also another favourable factor. There is no doubt, I may come back again.
