Madam Kwan’s, 1-Utama outlet

A local Malaysian food chain, Madam Kwan’s has made a big impact in the local cuisine.  We were in 1-Utama and decided to try it.

This was first time we ate at Madam Kwan’s.  Obviously, nasi lemak cannot be missed.  The presentation looked very pretty.  However, the curry chicken was a letdown.  I got the feeling it was cooked in the central cookhouse and then brought to the restaurant.  Very ordinary.  Rice was fragrant  without the overpowering  coconutty taste.

Curry laksa gravy was too rich in coconut milk.  The noodle was slightly overcooked.

Read somewhere that must try the cendol.  So we ordered.  Another letdown.  Red beans do  not taste fresh.  Kind of low quality type.

The mixed sambal vegetable was the only dish I liked.  Spicy but not overly done.   The long bean was crunchy and not overcooked.

Another dish was the deep fried chicken drumstick.  Quite ordinary.

I liked the side dish – ajar (mixed sweet and sour salad)

Not too sure if other Madam Kwan’s outlets standard will be better than where we had eaten.
